Value objects - a back door to functional programming paradigms?

This location is shown only to members

One of the primary focuses in the four day DDD training course is on the importance of value objects. Their immutability makes it much easier to architect scalable systems. Since a focus on immutability and elimination of shared state is one of the primary axioms of functional programming, do VO's encourage you to program in a more functional style? Have you ever written a purely functional app or subsystem and tried to apply principles from DDD?

In this free form discussion we'll look at the relationship between DDD and functional programming and what we can learn from it for all of our apps - even in traditional OO languages.
